Darja Shatalova is a transdisciplinary artist, born in Russia and based in Vienna. In her works she examines and analyses personal and social mechanisms, using a graphical, coded language of colours and symbols. The creation of systems strives to discover order and harmony in the abundance of occurrences.

Munich – Judith Neunhäuserer is featured on our Instagram page and on the podcast. She is a multimedia and installation artist. I visited her in her studio in october 2020 and among other topics we talked about her expedition to Antarctica and how it is connected to her art. In the second episode of the Artistscurrent Podcast I am talking to Jana Kerima Stolzer and Lex Rütten. They are an artist-duo working between performance-, video- and installation art and theater. In the interview we talked about working as a duo, theater, science-fiction between the today, the tomorrow and 100 years from now and robots who plan to kill humans – or might instead just be in love with each other. We also talked about humans developing empathy for vacuum cleaners, invisible machines, concepts or things that aren’t human in general. We touched on cartoons as well and the ability to show things that are not really there but might show more accurately, what is happening inside of the characters.
Sign language and the influence of language on culture
Vienna – Maria Belova is a performance, video and photography artist based in Vienna. For this episode we talked about sign language, which is a central element in her current practice, her interest in linguistics and how language is shaped and created by humans and influences them and their culture at the same time. We also touched on russian poetry in her work – she lived in Moscow her whole life until moving to vienna a few years ago – and her use of religious imagery and topics in her artworks.
