Science-fiction and empathy for machines

In the second episode of the Artistscurrent Podcast I am talking to Jana Kerima Stolzer and Lex Rütten. They are an artist-duo working between performance-, video- and installation art and theater. In the interview we talked about working as a duo, theater, science-fiction between the today, the tomorrow and 100 years from now and robots who plan to kill humans – or might instead just be in love with each other. We also talked about humans developing empathy for vacuum cleaners, invisible machines, concepts or things that aren’t human in general. We touched on cartoons as well and the ability to show things that are not really there but might show more accurately, what is happening inside of the characters.

The body of the DIVA: A multilingual introduction

An introduction to the operacollective DIVA. The episode is a mix between audioperformance, podcast and audio clips from their opera-performances.

Munich – This is the first episode with the DIVA collective: the artists Samuel Fischer-Glaser, Nikolai Gümbel, Sophie Schmidt and Angela Stiegler. Angela was recommended to the ARTISTSCURRENT project and invited the DIVA collective, which she is a part of, to join in for the podcast. That is the reason why this episode is a little different. I would describe it as a multilingual audio experience: part performance, part podcast, part opera audio clips. This episodes languages are german, english, italian and french, but you dont need to know all of them to listen to it. Just lean back, go for a walk, or paint and let this episode surprise you!

Creative energy, spirals and nature

Munich based painter Alina Birkner was the first artist to come on the podcast!

Munich – Alina Birkner is an abstract painter based in munich. In this episode we talked about her start in painting portraits, references for her abstract paintings, about creative energy and the shape of the spiral, as well as painting light and realms different from our world. Recently Alina started thinking about plants and growth, so we talked about recurring shapes and nature as well.
